Making Math Real: The 4 Operations and the 400 Math Facts Print E-mail

(4 semester academic units)

REQUIREMENT: All students who enroll in this course must have taken either the Making Math Real: Overview course OR one of the 6-day content courses (previously titled Part I, II and III).

This course continues the fundamental development from the Overview course for implementing a comprehensive, practical, systematic, and structured multisensory program in basic mathematics. It is designed for educational therapists, special educators, and elementary and secondary classroom teachers. Parents and those who consider themselves non-math majors are especially encouraged to enroll.

ImageThis course provides the essential foundation upon which all mathematics will develop: the 4 operations and the 400 math facts.  These are the basis for cognitive development K-5, and all mathematical applications through algebra and beyond.  Over the course of 8 days, participants learn how to provide students with this crucial foundation in a dynamic, innovative, intensive, hands-on approach that makes learning successful, fun and accessible for all students.

Topics include comprehensive methods for teaching the acquisition of all math facts, full units in addition, subtraction, basic place value, number concepts, multiplication, and long division (single-digit and double-digit multipliers and divisors). Extension and enrichment activities for each unit are presented. These methods are simplified, practical and ready for immediate professional use in classrooms, private practice or at home.  Extensive color-coding is a critical element of the program. Please bring 4 colored markers or pencils in blue, green, red and black.
