(1 semester academic unit) REQUIREMENT: All students who enroll in this course must have taken either the Making Math Real: Overview course OR one of the 6-day content courses (previously titled Part I, II and III) within the last 3 years. Spend two days learning to successfully teach your students to tell time and work with money using Making Math Real methods. Instruction for the "Time" unit will include modifying and utilizing appropriate manipulatives, multisensory instruction for telling time to the hour, half-hour and minute as well as word problem applications. Instruction for the "Money" unit will include strategies to support students memory for identify coins and values, and counting mixed coins systematically.
These techniques are designed to reach the full diversity of learning styles. Extensive color-coding is a critical element of the program. Please bring 4 colored markers or pencils in blue, green, red and black. CALENDAR FOR COURSES NATIONWIDE
Cost of Time & Money 2-Day Course: $294 for tuition and reader, paid to Making Math Real Institute; Additional fee for optional UC Extension academic unit, paid to UC Regents on the first day of class. "Time & Money" materials and manipulatives will be available for sale at the class.
